You left that morning,
your soft steps
echoing through the house.
As you pulled your jacket on
you tried to stop
the rough fabric from waking us.
Behind the wall
I was there.
But you didn't see me
like I saw you.
You didn't know I was there,
watching you as you
slept,
stepped,
ran
away from us.
I knew it would happen,
I could have stopped you.
But you were happy,
for once, you were happy
I could tell.
Halfway up the hill,
you smiled
as you looked back at our house.
I couldn't stop you
if you needed to go.

what's this about?
Don't ask please. It's just really personal.
You can't expect us to not ask, honestly............. my guess is that someone has left your family? Obviously you can deny that this poem has any significance, but I know that it does... You don't have to respond to this, I'm merely musing. But whatever it is, I hope you're okay.
Yeah, everything is okay. Thanks guys. Think of this poem in a more symbolic way, and you'll figure out the true meaning.
Is your conscience/innocence leaving???? Awww....
Possible drug abuse connotation?
Not drugs...sorry, but there's no easy way to say that. It can be an absence of mind, though. Drugs aren't the issue here. But really nicely done! I love that you're thinking outside of the box!
Rereading this, it sounds like someone died: that someone was trying to just pass on peacefully while everyone else wanted him/her to live a little longer.
whoa. that makes a lot more sense. i'm sorry bela.
None of the possible meanings seem to make complete sense. If the whole somebody-died thing is true, how could you have stopped them? That makes it sound suicidal when I rethink it.
Darn you and your darn profundity!
Um...thanks Maria! No dying guys...so don't apologize (Maddie!)!
I know, you love my confusing writing style :)
Dang it. I would have been more offensive if I hadn't thought I was about to make fun of someone who had just had a family member die.
