All Eyes on Me

Steady feet
wander blindly in the darkness
as eyes shift restlessly,
searching for a single glint
buried within the fabricated midnight.
A once certain heart
beats fiercely,
caged behind marrow bars,
and memory recedes
into blank trepidation.
Facing the black abyss,
stiff hands tremble,
awaiting a single spotlight
to streak the dark.
A flash.
Expectant glances blur into focus;
captivate me,
they await their satisfaction.
Breath is steadied,
eyes locking into position
above bodiless faces
as thoughts merge.
Two minds become one;
I am born.

You continue to amaze me, Miss Bela. I am in awe.

P.S. - I see you also used the "I am born" line from our conversation earlier. You'll notice I used it in one of my pieces as well.

Wow, thank you, Chance! Hahah, yes, I did :) I'm glad we could both help each other out. Let's do that again sometime.

I especially like the darkness of the piece, how a passion can have an (enjoyable?) fear and anticipation...very intriguing.

I would love to talk again. Of course, we would have to discuss this piece, as well. Looking forward to hearing from you, my faithful follower.

Thank you! Spot on, buddy. The exact wording I would use...I'll contact you soon :)

You're into marrow lately, aren't you? Haha.

I didn't expect this to be LITERALLY about stages and spotlights, but your note at the end seems to indicate otherwise...

It's important how the beginning of the poem serves to emphasize the audience's anticipation as well as your own, leading up to the rush of performance for you, fulfilling the audience's expectations and surpassing them, holding them in a sort of intellectual headlock...

Hahahaha, yeah...I'm not too sure why. Better than saying bones? It's a possibility. :)

A little more literal than usual, I'm keeping you on your toes! And yes, yes, and YES. I adore that explanation, too...it's the exact idea of the two perceptions.

Hi there :) I hope you don't mind, but I stumbled upon your blog and I'm going to click the follow button! I'm a poetry nerd, so I'd like to keep reading.

Of course I don't mind, thanks! Haha, I'm a bit of a poetry nerd myself, as you can see :)

I like the interesting paradox of something steady wandering blindly....

Also: I MISS BELA :(

Well thanks, Maria...yeah, I thought it'd be a nice way to show the ability to be confident, and to recognize routine, but all the same not knowing where things will take you :)

I MISS MARIA MORE :(
