When You're Gone

When you're gone,
my heart shatters
as I sit waist deep
in thoughts of you.
This empty home
has left me alone.
I'm waiting for you
to open the door.
Save me,
I'm drowning in shame.
If you're gone,
maybe life will start anew.
Memories will collapse
in the wrinkle of endless time,
opportunity will knock
at the door of my hollow heart.
I'm home,
emptier than before.
Soon you're gone,
dreams disappear
in the mind of a child,
weary from battling armored reality.
I am who I have lost;
an illusion of fate,
wrapped around your little finger.
Forever,
I am waiting.

In Your Heartbeat

I hope you love enough
to last a thousand lifetimes.
May your heart finally
be open and free.
May fireflies circle you in wonder,
lighting up the sky
above withering trees.
I hope you can remember
when teardrops hit the water.
May you wrap your arms around
what was almost lost.
Keep your eyes upon
the patches of bright midnight,
while the pale moon of tomorrow
washes you in vanilla twilight.
Whisper the song
that danced in your heartbeat,
jumping over flames,
falling into forgotten memories.
Smoke twirls under the spark
of a million stars.
I forgive you.

Endless Road

Take me down,
back to shattered memories
of souls I have lost.
Take me back,
before the mistakes
and the final tears of goodbye.
Before I was stripped bare
of who you led me to be,
before I was a shell of a soul,
a broken heart
carried miles and miles away.
But soon the winds of change
will sway the branches in my favor,
while steady feet
hold my head high.
Let the trees bud
with lessons I have learned,
challenges I have conquered,
wisdom I have gained.
Let the world start anew,
from the branch of life,
to Adam and Eve,
to where we have been
and where I will go.
So it is written.

Never to be Forgotten

You were my everything;
a smile in sadness,
the tear shed in strife.
You were my own;
a blackberry thief,
and protector of our castle.
An explorer of the world,
lover of the rain.
The risen gates
have opened for you,
a beautiful legend
in your own right.
Always beside me,
even now,
never to be forgotten.
I'll love you forever;
my companion,
my listener,
my best friend.

Shaken Road

Hold onto my hand,
I'll show you the way.
They've left us here
why should we stay?
Give me a reason
and I'll follow you back home.

The road keeps shaking,
we could fall through.
Can you feel the spaces,
the hollow souls we knew?
The broken people,
we stepped over them.

We've hit a wall,
there's no place to go.
You ask who I am,
why pretend you don't know?
Don't hide behind questions,
we can face this together.

Who We Used To Be

I remember
who we used to be.
Lying under the stars,
dreams twinkling
as we pointed into the night sky.
Catching clouds in memory;
an elephant, a clown,
the teddy bear in our arms.
Counting blades of grass,
browned wildflowers crinkling
in the loose grip of a child.
Never wondering
what comes next;
living for each moment,
and the freedom of comfort.
Wherever we were,
wherever we've been,
two lives
slowly separate.
Times are changing,
and we are forgotten.

Once Upon a Time

There was a time
when we knew to forget;
grasping winds in open palms,
holding onto lost memories.
Our smiles
always brighter than the sun,
our laughter
echoing in the wind.
Our path was hidden,
and we lit the dark,
fighting off dragons with
cardboard swords.
We were princesses and fairies,
and famous for a day,
no stopping us.
Living while we could,
invincible all the same.
We dared to dream,
to believe in possibilities.
